Introduction: A New Kind of Scooter
Imagine a scooter that feels as sturdy as an SUV but is easy to ride in the city. That’s the River Indie EV. Made by a startup in Bengaluru, this electric scooter is built for people who want comfort, space, and a bit of fun in their daily rides.

1. River Indie EV Design & Comfort
Bold, Protective Styling
The River Indie EV greets you with a boxy profile and squared-off LED “eyes” that give it a friendly, cartoon-like face while emphasizing robustness. Thick metal crash guards flank the sides, ready to absorb minor scrapes and keeping the bodywork pristine.
Roomy, Ergonomics
Hop on and you’ll notice the long, flat seat that accommodates riders of all heights, plus the scooped floorboard that lets you shuffle your feet forward or back at will. Even shorter riders can flat-foot the ground thanks to the moderate 775 mm seat height. This cruiser-style, feet-forward stance feels novel among typical scooters.
2. River Indie EV Storage & Utility
Industry-Leading Capacity
Under the seat River Indie EV lies a cavernous 43 litres of storage—enough for a full-face helmet plus your shopping bags. The lockable, illuminated glovebox adds another 12 litres for knick-knacks and a phone. On top of that, optional panniers and a top-box can boost capacity by up to 65 litres more, giving you a potential 120 litres of total cargo space, unheard of on most scooters.
Practical Extras
Two USB ports live beneath the display, ready to juice up your phone during a ride. And should you need to twist out of a tight parking spot, a reverse button shunts the scooter backward under motor power, sparing you the push.
3. Performance & Range
Rapid Mid-Motor
At its heart is a 6.7 kW peak (4.5 kW continuous) mid-mounted motor that whisks you from standstill to 40 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Twist the grip harder in Rush mode and the scooter feels energetic, while Ride mode offers balanced throttle response for everyday traffic. Eco mode controls back power to extend range, though it’s best saved for when you’re hunting every last kilometer.
Real-World Range
River quotes an IDC range of 161 km, translating to about 120 km on the road in Eco mode. Independent tests clocked 100 km in Eco and 89 km in Rush when ridden sedately; aggressive riding can shrink those figures noticeably. The 140 kg curb weight works against range, but strong regen braking recovers extra juice whenever you lift off the throttle.

4. Charging & Battery
Standard & Fast Options
Out of the box, you get an 800 W portable charger that fills the battery from 0–80 percent in about five hours, with the last 20 percent taking another 1.5 hours. Soon, a 3 kW fast-charger will be available as an optional extra, promising a full charge in roughly 1 h 20 m for riders in a hurry. You can also pick up a secondary, lower-power portable charger to keep at work or a second home.
Battery Details
The Lithium-ion pack stores 4 kWh of energy, backed by a three-year or 30,000 km warranty. Once the state-of-charge dips below 5 percent, the Indie automatically switches to Eco mode to get residual range—all part of River’s software-driven energy strategy.
5. Features & Connectivity
Tech on River Indie
Rather than filling the cockpit with gimmicky gadgets, River focuses on essentials: a crisp 6 inch LCD shows speed, battery status, range estimate, gear and mode selection, plus warning lights. There’s no Bluetooth audio or heated grips, but that keeps costs in check.
eSIM & App Link
Under the skin sits an embedded SIM that will later enable GPS tracking, remote diagnostics and OTA software updates via the River smartphone app. At launch, these services weren’t live yet, but River plans to roll them out before customer deliveries begin.

6. Pricing & Availability
Ex-Showroom Cost
Early adopters in Bengaluru can lock in the original ₹1.25 lakh price, including the FAME-II subsidy. Later bookings will see prices rise toward ₹1.45 lakh, placing the Indie above rivals like the Ola S1 Air, Ather 450S and TVS iQube S, which deliver similar performance and range.
Dealer Expansion
Currently sold only in Karnataka, River intends to broaden its network to Hyderabad and other metros in the coming months. Prospective buyers elsewhere should watch for new showroom openings or plan for long-distance test rides.
7. Conclusion: A Thinking Person’s Scooter
The River Indie isn’t built to chase headline-grabbing top speeds or flashy bells and whistles. Instead, it doubles down on practicality – massive storage, a comfy ride posture, intuitive regen, and solid build quality – wrapped in an endearingly quirky shell. If your daily grind involves school runs, grocery hauls or short commutes, and you don’t crave the outright sportiest EV scooter, the Indie could be your two-wheeled “SUV.” Give it a spin, and you might just find yourself enjoying the simplest aspects of electric mobility more than you expected.
